WAGON MASTER'S REPORT OF 2013 LOBSTERFEST RALLY

LobsterFest 2013 was another successful rally. Since its beginning in August 1984, Chapter 3 has held LobsterFest rallies continuously for 29 years. The rally has been held at Pumpkin Patch since moving there in 2006.
The activities began on Aug 13th with 22 people attending the pre-rally dinner at Moe's Original Bar-B-Que. They enjoyed pulled pork, ribs, and catfish dinners. Several first time visitors joined us at the dinner.

A continental breakfast was provided the next day to early arrivals who then helped with setup before registration. There were a total of 28 rigs and 51 persons who registered. In addition there were 4 persons without rigs who drove daily to the rally. This brought the total number of registered persons to 55. For the LobsterFest on Saturday, 4 guests also joined us to enjoy the lobsters and clams.
The activities and fun began with social hour at 4 pm followed by the pot luck dinner. A cake was donated to celebrate the 61st wedding anniversary of Armand & Maybelle Auclair. {Possible VCR notes added here - optional}

Thursday morning started with a continental breakfast followed by a morning for book & stuff swap, hobbies, and treasures. The Brown Bag Auction was held after lunch and made $276.00.
After social hour, the Iron Chef contest was held. The challenge was to create a "Jazzy Dessert" using one or more summer berries. There were 8 entries. The winner was Dolories Sacrider who made Berries in a Cloud. The second place entry was Strawberry Truffles made by Janet Wilson.
The chapter provided dinner was a "Jazz Picnic" with hot dogs, beans, chips, and a salad. Music was provided by Shades of Blue, a Jazz and Blues band (http://julianegardner.net/shades-of-blue.html). The same band provided easy listening and dance music for two more hours after dinner. A special song was sung for Helmut & Mairean Koch who were celebrating their 19th anniversary. Our Vice President, John DeRoy, entertained us all by dancing with the lead singer, Juliane Gardner. Even the Auclairs danced showing us all that 61 years of marriage doesn't have to slow you down.

Friday began with "breakfast in a bag" and was the free time day, allowing everyone to either visit interesting sites in Maine or just relax and wash clothes. Four people took a 3 hour Stephen King tour (http://www.sk-tours.com/) and saw the various places around Bangor used for themes in Stephen King's books and movies. The tour guide previously owned a book store in Bangor and personally knew Stephen King. It was a great tour even for those who don't read his books.

After another continental breakfast on Saturday, the "LobsterFest Crew" began preparations at 9:30. A total of 55 lobsters, 45 pounds of clams, and 10 dozen ears of corn were purchased. Five of the seven extra lobsters were sold; the two remaining were given to Pumpkin Staff. Everyone left the dinner smiling, full of lobsters, clams, and corn.
The annual chapter 3 meeting was held in the afternoon. Joan Hurd was re-elected president and Tracy Magee was re-elected secretary. Joyce Bogan volunteered to be the Rally Host for the June 2014 rally. The 30th LobsterFest will be held August 13-17, 2014 and will be coordinated by Julie Antworth and Grace Taylor. It was decided that the chapter would match donations for school supplies that Pumpkin Patch would be giving to Bangor elementary students.
The day was capped off by an ice cream social, the 50/50 raffle, and door prizes. A total of $187.00 was collected for the 50/50 raffle, of which $94.00 + $6.00  from Chapter = $100.00 were sent to CARE. Three $10 Camping World gift certificates, a $25 Cabelas gift card, and a $50 REI gift card were awarded as door prizes.
Lastly, "Judge Julie" with her red hair and purple blouse, held her "Kangaroo Court", issuing fines to persons caught by the sheriff during the week. The court session got testy when the sheriff brought charges against the judge for failing to help his spouse when she fell. The court bouncer had to calm things down.  A total of $23.85 in fines and court fees.

On Sunday a great crew of guys cooked the blueberry pancakes, sausages, and scrambled eggs for the 7:00 am breakfast so that registrants left on a full stomach. Unlike some years, the majority of attendees stayed to enjoy breakfast before leaving. A few rigs stayed overnight, leaving on Monday.  Overall, the rally was successful and without any safety incidents.

June 2013 Rally Report

Escapee Chapter 3 Spring Rally Report
This year’s Spring Rally was held at Wilderness Lake Campground in Willington, Ct. on Wednesday, June 12th  until  Sunday, June 16th; hosted by Arlene & Bruce Hanson. We had 13 members attend with 5 rigs on the lake front & two couples in rooms on-site.
All but one couple arrived on Wednesday, all in time for happy hour. By choice, only Judy & Don Penman went out to dinner, while the rest of us carried on with snacks & conversation. Also lots of laughs.
Thursday morning we gathered at the Hanson’s site for Breakfast; Coffee, Cereal, English muffins, etc, after which, we all went for a hike around the lake & back when we couldn’t jump the brook. The “Mountain Laurel”, Connecticut’s’ State flower was in bloom.
As expected, the rain arrived at noon and we were able to use the clubhouse. Happy Hour was enjoyed around the warming fireplace and we were provided popcorn from the little red cart. The welcoming dinner was New Orleans Style, Jambalaya, with chicken, sausage & shrimp & a big tossed salad, followed by a lemon cake. Full & happy to be out of the rain, the evening continued with Mexican Train Dominoes.
Friday, still wet & soggy, the early risers got the fire & the coffee started, which was followed by pancakes, sausages, fruit salad & O.J.
Jon & Mary Lockwood who drove from South Carolina for the Rally, went on to spend the day touring Woodstock, Ct  and the Roseland Cottage, while Joyce & Bob Bogan went to the Museums at the University Of Connecticut. As the day went on, the weather cleared and we were able to enjoy the pot-luck dinner outside followed by more games and lots more chatting.
Saturday was a beautiful day. Sadly, Jimmy & Lillian Lynch & Ed Lonergan were on the road very early to return home. Breakfast was coffee, cereal, yogurt and Jon Lockwood’s camper-baked Blueberry Muffins, Yum. Bruce & Arlene drove to visit a friend in Putnam, Ct; returning to camp just in time to watch a wedding on the beach.
While Maureen and John held down the fort, we  all drove to Willington Pizza for a relaxing dinner. We said farewell to Judy & Don and returned to camp for Bruce’s Ice Cream Social.
Since Sunday was Father’s  Day, and everyone was leaving very early, Bruce gave everyone a special muffin we planned for Sunday Breakfast and bid good buy & farewell.
NOTES: We did not hold a formal meeting, we did not find anyone willing to take  the Spring Rally for 2014. The only form of business conducted, was by our Treasurer, Maureen DeRoy, who collected the annual dues, the Rally fee & paid out the expenses. Judy Penman has taken the Chapter supplies & will do an inventory to pass on for the next Spring Rally.
It was a nice Campground; we were treated well and hope that everyone had a good time. Thank you to everyone for all the help and support.

Arlene & Bruce Hanson.
